At the Pelletier Guitar and Music Camp your classes may involve the entire group (sometimes for a group theory session or other workshop) but you will also be divided into small groups according to your playing level and instructor preference. In these small groups you'll learn to play some tunes. If you have a preference of what tunes you'd like to learn in your class you can choose one of the classes below (by indicating on your registration form). If you have no preference, that's OK too (see below).

  1. Country/Bluegrass Freddie's decades of experience in this area will be a huge asset to those wanting to delve into these styles. All levels. OFFERED ALL WEEKS
  2. Gypsy Jazz Learn the jazz of the 30's and 40's as played by Django Rheinhart, the spiritual Godfather of jazz menouche. Taught by Clint Pelletier. For intermediate-advanced guitarists. WEEK 2 ONLY
  3. The Variety Pack Redd Volkaert will teach a class that could include country, western swing, blues, even rock. He'll tailor his class to what you want to learn! All levels, WEEK 1 AND 2.
  4. Blues Get in the blues groove with Clint or Redd. All levels. ALL WEEKS
  5. Fingerstyle Guitar There's nobody better than Bob Evans for this class! Learn beautiful melodies and fingerstyle instrumentals. Must be an intermediate-advanced player. WEEK 3
  6. Very Beginner 'Strum and Sing' Guitar This is a TWO DAY, eight hour class and it's perfect for absolute beginners. It's not too long so you can absorb all the information, easier to get away for just two days and by the time your fingers get sore, you'll be done the program. Learn a few basic chords, sing and accompany yourself. Taught by Linda Campbell. Program and songs are created for adults but younger beginners can benefit greatly. OFFERED AUG. 2-3. You should have your own guitar for this class but if you don't, we can provide one for you. Please let us know by June 20th, if possible, if you would like us to supply a guitar.
  7. Guitar Fundamentals Not interested in any one particular style? Will focus on basic theory, ear training, scales, chords, bass runs, picking tunes and more. This class will help build a solid foundation from which you can learn any style. For beginner to intermediate. ALL WEEKS

Please note that we do not offer a rock guitar class at camp. We do have instructors that can offer individual lessons in this area if requested.

Workshops!

In addition to your scheduled groups, the instructors will prepare a one hour workshop for each day. You then choose the workshop you want to attend. Samples of workshop topics will include the following. More will be added at a later date and will depend on what instructors are teaching the week you are at camp:

  • Intro to Gypsy Jazz Clint will be offering a class dedicated to this style but are some of you wondering what exactly it is? He'll de-mystify this term and transport you to the world of Django Rheinhart.
  • Redd's Ramblings ... Redd Volkaert is one of the finest telecaster players you will ever hear. He's seen and done it all and is now immersed in the music scene in Austin, Texas. We don't know what workshops he'll be teaching yet but whether he's showing you some hot licks or talking about his musical experiences, you can be sure it'll be fabulous!
  • Learn a Fingerstyle tune Bob Evans will choose a beautiful finger style tune to learn that can be taught to all levels of players.
  • Sing Out Loud and Be Proud of It! Sheila Pelletier will share a few basic vocal exercises, techniques and touch on singing harmony.
  • How to Play in a Band Get the experience of playing in a band situation with other instruments.
  • Intro to Digital Recording Clint will bring some portable pieces of his 'Reel Time' studio equipment, show you how to get started on your CD project, what you have to prepare and how to do it all on a budget.
  • Pre-planning of other workshops include:
